Be Well’s Functional Medicine Blood Draw Information

IMPORTANT: When selecting a location for your blood draw, be sure to read site-specific information listed below for important scheduling details. Preferred sites either stock specific kits for us, cutting several days off the wait for kits to be shipped directly to you to bring to the lab - or - have reduced rates for phlebotomy service fees.

STEPS FOR COMPLETING BLOOD WORK:

1.) Request and pay your lab invoice. Be Well does not place any lab orders prior to payment in full. Return/refund information can be found HERE.

2.) Wait for instructions from Be Well in the patient portal. You will either bring printed lab orders or a lab kit with you to your appointment.

3.) After we sent instructions, schedule your

SCHEDULING

Most blood draws locations are done by appointment only (except for walk-in only sites) and appointment are scheduled directly through the draw site, not through Be Well.

Ask for a lab only appointment, and let them know you have signed orders for a specialty lab draw. If you have a kit, let them know.

Unless otherwise directed, the best days to get blood drawn for functional medicine labs are Monday through Wednesday to ensure a viable sample through timely shipping and receipt. Almost all samples are processed out of state. IMPORTANT: Consult your treatment plan for specific guidance regarding fasting, timing, etc.

IGeneX kits must be drawn Monday through Wednesday.

PRICING and service fees

Lab orders are prepaid directly to Be Well. Exceptions are IGeneX and Neurovanna, which are paid directly to those labs rather than our clinic.

Additionally, most lab sites will charge a small service fee payable at the time of your draw. We recommend double checking current fees when scheduling; fees vary by location and test type and are subject to change.

WHAT TO BRING

If you received a test kit in the mail, don’t forget to bring it with you to the lab (including the ice pack, if applicable). This kit already includes your signed orders.

If your draw does not require a boxed kit (this would have been shipped to you in advance), please print and bring a your orders with you to your blood draw. You can find copies in your patient portal here.

You’ll also need ID. Insurance information is not needed.

RESULTS AND FOLLOWING UP

Most functional medicine lab results typically take 2-3+ weeks to process and will be sent directly to your doctor when completed. If you haven’t scheduled a follow up already, the day of your blood draw is a good time to confirm your next appointment to review results in the context of your care. If the timing of your scheduled follow up appointment doesn’t align with this timeline, please reach out to the front desk for specific rescheduling guidance.
